+Epcot Overview

Disney’s Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow (EPCOT) opened October 1, 1982 in Orlando, Florida. It is the United States’ third most frequented theme park.

The park has two main sections – World Showcase and Future World. Because it is laid out in similar fashion to world expositions, EPCOT is often described as being a permanent world’s fair. The World Showcase section contains eleven country themed pavilions that showcase the art, culture and cuisine of each nation.

Several pavilions also have shows, rides and attractions related to those countries. Based upon the Disney animated show Kim Possible, park guests can use special “Kimmunicators” to solve a crime, foil villains and trigger special events as they tour the World showcase. In Future World, patrons explore the possible applications of innovative technology. Guests enjoy shows, rides and displays in Spaceship Earth, The Land, Universe of Energy, Test Track and The Seas with Nemo and Friends as well as several other pavilions.

Visitors ride “FriendShip” launches that transport passengers across World Showcase Lagoon. The lagoon is the location for an award winning fireworks and laser light show each night. EPCOT character spot is a location where children of all ages can meet and have pictures taken with their favorite Disney characters. EPCOT hosts several popular annual events such as the International Flower and Garden Show and the International Food and Wine Festival. “Holidays Around the World” showcases the festivals of the countries in the World Showcase with particular attention to a New Year’s Eve celebration.
